Unique Swedish mountain cattle
Unique Swedish mountain cattle are the original strain of today’s crossbred Swedish mountain cattle.
Unique Swedish mountain cattle are small and mainly white with black or brown patches. They are hornless.
In the past, people kept cows mostly for milk. But they did not drink milk as we do today. They instead used milk for butter and cheese, among other things. Older breeds give less milk, but their milk has more fat than that of today’s crossbred cows.
The breed today is critically endangered.
At the museum, Unique Swedish mountain cattle help keep the landscape open. Most of their milk is consumed by calves.
